Bernie Behrendt

Bernie Behrendt – Football, 1949-1952
- Bernie Behrendt was an outstanding offensive and defensive football player at Murray State from 1949-52.
- Pound-for-pound, Behrendt was one of the best athletes to ever compete at Murray State.
- He was fullback from Chicago, Ill., and when he left MSU, was one of only two football players in Ohio Valley Conference history to earn All-OVCÂ honors on both offensive and defense.
- A four-year letterman, Behrendt was an All-OVC selection in 1951, and made both units as a two-way regular in 1952.
- Behrendt played a significant part in helping Murray State to consecutive Ohio Valley Conference football championships in 1950 and finished with an impressive 8-1 record in 1951.
- The leading rusher and scorer for the Thoroughbreds during the ’51 and ’52 seasons, Behrendt held the school record for the longest field goal (34 yards) until it was broken in 1971 by Stan Watts.Â
- Behrendt served as the co-captain as a senior in 1962 and also participated in track. (Murray State Alumnus, July 1979)
