LAST TIME OUT. . .
Murray State used a pair of big scoring runs on Monday to open the 2026-27 season with a 94-64 win over Tennessee State in the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon. Roman Domon led the way with 22 points, adding five rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal to his final stat line, while Kaden Magwood notched 15 points and both Talis Soulhac and Brayden Shorter each finished with 13 points. Brigham Rogers was the final Racer in double digits, chipping in 10 points while grabbing five rebounds of his own.
KEEP THE TREND GOING
The Racers won their fourth-straight season-opener on Monday and are now 9-1 in their last 10 season tipoff contests. Murray State now aims to keep its home-opener winning streak alive and move it to 12 straight victories on Saturday night. In their 102nd season of basketball in 2026-27, the Racers have only lost their home-opening game nine times in program history - and only one of those has come in the last 36 years (2014).
LET'S (RE)OPEN THIS PLACE
Saturday's home opener is also the opening of the reimagined CFSB Center, which recently completed an eight-figure renovation to completely transform the facility. Murray State is 4-1 in its previous five building-opening games, with the lone loss in the first game in program history and the opening of Wilson Hall in 1925. Building-opening wins came in 1927 (Lovett Auditorium), 1937 (Carr Health Building), 1954 (Racer Arena) and 1998 (original CFSB Center).
DEMON DISCUSSION
Northwestern State finished with a 10-22 overall record (2-15 on the road) and an 8-14 Southland Conference record last season, falling in the opening round of the SLC Tournament. Northwestern State was picked eighth in the 12-team Southland Conference preseason poll in late October. The Demons enter the 2026-27 season with 11 newcomers on their 14-person roster.
OPENING WEEK FOR THE FOES
Northwestern State will play its third game of the young season - all coming on the road - when it tips off against Murray State on Saturday night. The Demons opened the year at Baylor on Monday (87-65 loss) before playing at Mississippi State on Thursday (82-44 loss). Northwestern State's lone public exhibition was also on the road, a 62-60 victory at North Texas on October 26.
IT'S BEEN A LOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME
Saturday night marks the seventh meeting all-time between Murray State and Northwestern State, but the first in 65 years. The Racers and then-Louisiana Normal College met in four postseason matchups in the 1930's – in March 1932, 1936, 1937 and 1939 – and later with a pair of home contests inside Racer Arena in December 1959 and December 1961. Murray State won both home contests, while the all-time series is deadlocked at 3-3.
SHARING THE LOAD
Nine players saw 12-plus minutes of action in Monday's season-opening win over Tennessee State, with only four players recording 20 or more minutes. The Racers had 12 different scorers in the win, but only four players attempted seven or more shot attempts. It was also a group effort on the glass, with 13 Racers combining for the 37 total rebounds (no one with more than five rebounds).
