Dennis Jackson – Football and Track, 1960-1964
In 1960 Jackson became the first African American student-athlete at MSU. He was an all-around player competing as a receiver, tailback and safety in football and was an excellent performer in track & field. Jackson was part of the Murray State 4x100 meter relay team that had the best time in the southeast region. He was named to the All-OVC Football team in 1964. Jackson who lives in Paducah, KY has served as an administrator for the Paducah Public Schools. He as inducted into the Kentucky High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. He worked as an official for 25 years and worked 12 state boys, and three state girls’ basketball championships. Jackson currently serves as the Director of District Personnel for the Paducah Public Schools. He is married to Patricia Brandon and they have a son, Brandon Wesley Jackson. Mr. Jackson received the following from Murray State University Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, Rank I, Professional Certificate for School Administration, Endorsement for Secondary School Principal for Grades 7-12, Endorsement for School Superintendent. Prior to his current occupation Mr. Jackson served as Health & PE Teacher and High School Assistant Football Coach at Trigg County Jr. High School in Cadiz, KY from 1966-1967. He was a Social Studies Teacher/Student Council Advisor at Bard Jr. High in Benton Harbor, Michigan. From 1968-Present he has served in the Paducah Public Schools as a Health & PE Teacher, Football, Basketball, and Track Coach and Dean of Students at the Jetton Junior High. He has served as a History Teacher and Track Coach at the Brazelton Junior High/Paducah Middle School, and as the Asst. Football Coach, Athletic Director, and Asst. Principal at Paducah Tilghman High School. He has received numerous honors and awards such as the Kentucky Colonel Award, Duke of Paducah, Teach of the Year for Paducah Middle School.
