The Murray State softball team dropped a 4-0 decision to Tennessee Tech in the third game of the weekend Ohio Valley Conference series in Cookeville, Tenn.
The Racers (9-18, 4-5 OVC) tallied five hits and drew three walks, while the Golden Eagles (14-21, 4-6 OVC) tallied five hits and drew two walks. Sophomore Megan Glosser led MSU with two hits, while freshmen Megan Belio and Kaitlyn England and junior Jenna Bradley each added one.
Freshman Starr Gilley earned the start in the circle and took to loss, moving to 1-2 on the season. The remaining three pitchers on the staff all saw action in the game, with Gilley and sophomore Chelsey Sullivan each garnering two strike outs and junior Kristen Broadway adding a third.
The Golden Eagles were the first to get a run on the scoreboard, as they took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. TTU continued to add to its lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Golden Eagles made the score 3-0 off three hits. The lead was then extended to four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Racers struggled to get their bats going in the third game of the series, after recording 15 hits the day before in the double header. MSU had scoring chances in the second and sixth innings, but the Golden Eagles defense held strong and didn't allow the runners in scoring position to cross the plate.
The Racers will return to action at Racer Field at Murray-Calloway County Park, Monday, April 5 when they host Trevecca Nazarene on a rescheduled rain-out double header. The first game is set to start at 2 p.m. MSU will also host Bethel, Thursday, April 8 for a double header and Austin Peay, April 10-11 for a weekend series.
