BOX SCORE
Lauren Buch and Ellyn Troup each homered for Murray State as the Racers picked up a 9-7 win Sunday afternoon to close a three game Ohio Valley Conference series at Southeast Missouri.
Buch homered for the 11th time this season in the top of the first, driving in Megan Glosser and Jenna Bradley with one out to put the Racers up 3-0.
Southeast Missouri followed suit in the bottom half of the inning, getting its own 3-run home run from Renee Kertz to tie the game. Shelby Kuryllo homered to left later in the innings as the Redhawks led 5-3 after the first.
MSU took the lead back in the second after scoring three more runs. Stephanie Mattocks scored from third on a passed ball that advanced Stephanie Edwards to third. She scored on a ground ball by Taylor Wilson, sliding under the tag at home on a force attempt. Wilson moved to third on an infield bunt to second by Glosser and scored on a failed pickoff attempt a batter later.
Troup gave the Racers two more runs in the top of the third, hitting her sixth round-tripper of the season with Buch on base to increase the MSU advantage to 8-5.
SEMO added a run in the bottom half of the third on a double to left center with two outs to cut the Racer lead down to two.
Both teams traded runs in the fifth inning. Mattocks doubled to right field with one out and two on to score Christian Cox. The Redhawks got their final run of the game on their third home run of the day from Carmen Fowler for the final score of 9-7.
Kristen Broadway picked up her first win of the season, tossing 6.1 innings in relief while allowing a pair of runs on five hits and a walk. She struck out a career-high nine Redhawk batters on the day, including her first five outs of the game.
Shea Cothren took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits for Southeast Missouri.
Buch, Bridges and Mattocks led the Racers with two hits each. Eight different Racers scored at least one run with Buch the lone MSU player to score twice, and she also led the team with three runs batted in.
Murray State returns to action Wednesday, April 20, with a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against Alabama State.
