The Racers face three challenging games this week against teams near the top of their respective conferences. MSU travels to Carbondale, Ill., for a single game against Southern Illinois at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 1. Murray State then faces #10 Missouri in a doubleheader at 3 & 5 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
WEEKEND RECAP
Murray State sent its three seniors out in style this weekend, taking all three games against Southeast Missouri. The Racers rallied in all three games, giving up the first run in each game before winning 3-1 and 10-7 Saturday afternoon, and winning 8-7 behind five runs in the bottom of the seventh Sunday.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
Southern Illinois dropped its first conference series of the season this past weekend, losing two of three to Northern Iowa. The Salukis dropped a pair of 2-0 and 5-0 decisions around a 7-1 win in the second game of the series. SIU and the Racers have five common opponents this season as Southern Illinois is 2-1 against Ohio Valley Conference competition. They earned a pair of wins against SIU Edwardsville and single wins against Austin Peay, Jacksonville State and Southeast Missouri. They dropped a one-run, 8-7 loss against UT Martin.
Center fielder Mallory Duran leads SIU with a .368 average, scoring a team-high 56 runs while getting on base at a .516 clip in 48 games.
Alyssa Wunderlich leads the pitching staff with a 2.88 earned run average, holding a 12-2 record this season in 13 starts and 28 appearances.
Southern Illinois is out-scoring its opponents 279 to 194 this season and is 15-6 in 21 games on its home field.
SCOUTING MIZZOU
Missouri has been one of the best teams in the nation this season, sitting at #10 in last week's NFCA Coaches Poll. The Tigers took three games from Iowa State this past weekend, improving to 14-7 in Big12 action this season. In third place in the Big12, Mizzou is 37-10 overall in 2012 and an impressive 19-2 at home. The Tigers have played a pair of OVC teams this season, falling 6-5 in 10 innings against Eastern Kentucky at the Quality Inn Classic, while defeating SEMO 9-0 in five innings.
Right fielder Ashley Flemming sits atop the Mizzou batting statistics, holding a .391 average in 47 games. She also leads the team with 12 home runs and 41 RBI on the season.
Chelsea Thomas holds a 19-7 record in the circle for the Tigers in 25 starts. A member of the 2012 United State National Team, she holds a minute 1.03 earned run average with 217 strikeouts in 155.2 innings pitched this season.
