Four cards, including a red, and two goals in the final 1:53 of Friday's match at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, gave Belmont a 3-2 win over the Murray State women's soccer team.
The Bruins (4-5-1, 1-1-1 OVC) were the first on the board in the contest when Meredith Martin headed in a corner kick by Cassie Blase in the 13th minute for her first goal of the season. However, the Racers pulled level just before halftime, on a shot from the middle of the box by Lauren Frazier that went into the left corner of the net, past Belmont goalkeeper Nicole Berner. The goal was Frazier's third of the season and was assisted by Tasha Merritt.
In the second half, the Racers (3-6-1, 0-3 OVC) went ahead on a ball that was passed in front of the net by Julie Mooney and then buried home by the foot of Megg Hudson. The goal was Hudson's first in 2013, while it was the fourth assist of the year by Mooney, giving her a team-high 12 points on the season.
With just two minutes left in regulation, it appeared the Racers would cruise to the win. However, somehow, it all went south for MSU very quickly. The downturn began with a red card issued to Halle Pinkham that led to Belmont tying the game at two on the resulting free kick in the 89th minute.
With 42 seconds left in the contest, Lyssie Wright received a yellow card; that was followed by another yellow issued to Pavlina Nepokojova with just three seconds remaining. With the clock stopped for the card, Belmont's Allison Alcott sent her free kick directly into the net as time expired for her second goal of the night, but more importantly the 3-2 win for the Bruins
On Sunday, the Racers will look to bounce back when they travel to Tennessee Tech. Game time in Cookeville is set for 2 p.m.
