Racers Travel to Illinois to Take on EIU, SIUE

The Murray State volleyball team (12-4, 3-1 OVC) has a pair of road matchups against Eastern Illinois (7-10, 1-3 OVC) and SIU Edwardsville (8-11, 0-4 OVC). The Racers will face EIU Friday at 7 p.m. before facing SIU Edwardsville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
In the first RPI of the 2014 women's volleyball season, Murray State was ranked 144th. The Racers continue to see themselves in the NCAA individual and team rankings. The team ranks 7th in digs per set with 17.56, 33rd in kills per set with 13.86, 50th in assists per set with 12.68, and 25th with only allowing opponents to hit .154. Individually, Sam Bedard is ranked 46th in assists per set with 10.75, while Ellie Lorenz is ranked with 31st in digs per set 4.89. Alyssa Lelm is hitting .336 and sees herself ranked 114th, with Scottie Ingram turning in 3.56 points per set to rank 237th.
Last week, the Racers split a pair of matches. MSU was swept by Austin Peay 0-3 to take their first conference loss of the season before defeating Eastern Kentucky in a grueling four sets.

Ingram and Bedard notched double-doubles in both matches with Ingram adding 10 kills and 11 digs against Austin Peay, while she turned in a career-high 24 kills to go along with 17 digs against EKU. Bedard added 30 assists with 11 digs against Austin Peay, while having a season-high 58 assists with 14 digs against EKU.

Two more Racers turned in double-doubles against Eastern Kentucky coming from Kristen Besselsen's career-high 17 digs with 13 kills, and Taylor Olden's 17 kills and 11 digs.

Lorenz added 24 digs against EKU, which was one short of her season-high.

After the weekend, Ingram was named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Eastern Illinois defeated SIUE before falling to Belmont. The Panthers defeated the Cougars in a tough four set, before falling to Belmont in a grueling five sets. Chelsea Lee recorded 33 kills, a .273 attack percentage and 34.5 points to lead EIU last week. She posted double-digit kills in both matches with 13 kills against SIUE and 20 against Belmont. Stephanie Wallace turned in 28 digs over the two matches, with 17 coming against Belmont. Marah Bradbury dished out 98 assists, with 39 coming from the match against SIUE.

SIU Edwardsville fell to Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State last week. Both matchups last week were grueling four matches. The Cougars are 0-4 in conference play this season. Kristen Torre leads the league with .371 hitting percentage. Ashley Witt currently has 216 kills through 19 matches, while also leading the team in service aces with 25. The Cougars are hitting .177 overall, while hitting .191 against conference opponents.Â
