Coming off their second place finish at the OVC Championships a week ago, Murray State rifle squared off against Ole Miss in their final dual match of the 2013-14 season. MSU came out on top scoring their fourth most points this season, taking down the Rebels, 4649-4610.
"Ole Miss is a good team that has the potential to throw up some big numbers," said Head Coach Alan Lollar.
MSU took four of the top five places in the smallbore. Bill Harvey and Kelsey Emme shared the lead with a 576 score. Tessa Howald tied for third place with 574 and Marisca Mozeleski tied her personal best firing a 573.
In the air rifle, Howald tied for the top score with a 592. Katarina Bisercic finished tied for third shooting a 590 and Emme rounded out the top five with a 589. After the match, coach Lollar said, "Tessa, Kelsey and Katy did a solid job in air today and Bill has become very consistent, when we need it."
Harvey finished his day with a 580 air rifle. Following his match Harvey said, "I feel like we have been training hard and are ready to compete at our best."
Sam Harris had his best day as a Racer. Harris PR'd in both guns with a 569 in smallbore and 586 in air rifle. Speaking about Harris, coach Lollar said, "Sam Harris had a good match with personal bests in both guns."
Kaitlyn Wilson and Jack Berhorst both finished in the top-10 in smallbore. Wilson scored a 572 and Berhorst fired a 570.
"Smallbore was consistent across the board," said coach Lollar. "Kait Wilson is starting to come on strong when we need her."
Next week is the final match before the NCAA tournament. Teams will be looking to qualify at the regional NCAA qualifier, hosted by Murray State. Heading into next weekend, coach Lollar said, "I thought it was a good match to get ready for qualifier next weekend. We're looking forward to next week. All we ask for is the opportunity, and it's there."
