It's been three weeks since the OVC Indoor Championship and Murray State's women's track team finally embarked on their outdoor journey at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina.
The Racers came up big in a number of events. Junior Brittany Bohn won the 5,000m in her first time running the event outdoors. Her time of 17:51.06 is the seventh best in MSU history. She was also the only athlete to finish in under 18 minutes. Bohn doubled up her 5K PR by running another PR a day later in the mile. She finished in seventh place with a time of 5:05.16.
The 2013 OVC champion in the hammer throw, Tonia Pratt, started out her outdoor season by breaking her own school record in the event. Pratt, who set the record at the outdoor championships, finished in third place with a record-breaking throw of 179'1". She also finished in second place in the shot put with a toss of 47'1.5".
Fellow thrower, Sydney Potts, also set a personal record. Potts, who won the javelin at the 2013 OVC Outdoor Championships, bettered her mark with a throw of 136'9". The throw puts her at number three all-time at MSU.
Emma Gilmore, who finished with three medals at the OVC Indoor Championships, started her outdoor campaign with a pair of PRs. Gilmore finished in sixth place in the 800m with a time of 2:13.67, good for sixth all-time. She also ran a personal-best 1:00.63 in the 400m dash.
In the short sprints, Hannah McAllister finished in 15th place out of 99 in the 100m dash. McAllister ran 12.39, finishing second in her heat. McAllister wasn't finished there, she also set a personal-best in the 200m dash with a time of 25.66.
The MSU relay teams also made some noise. The 4x800m team of Natalie Pattin, Raeven Wilson, Tia Weston and Kimmy Siebert finished in 6th place with a time of 9:45.61. The Racer 4x400m and 4x200 meter relays also scored top-10 finishes, placing eighth and 10th respectively.
A few of the Racer men also made the trip to South Carolina. Cole Cisneros finished in sixth place in the 10,000m run with a time of 32:55.70. Lucas Prather and Evan Staviski placed in the top-10 in the 1500m with times of 4:16.01 and 4:18.53 to finish in sixth and eighth place respectively.
