One school record was not enough for junior Tonia Pratt. Pratt, who bettered her own record in the hammer throw a week ago in the Racer's outdoor opener, bettered it once again at the Black and Gold Invitational, hosted by Vanderbilt. And if that wasn't enough, Pratt also shattered the school record in the shot put.
Pratt started the meet on Friday with the hammer throw. She finished third overall and second among NCAA competitors with a toss of 56.23m (184'6"). She concluded Saturday with the shot put, jumping ahead of Shameka Dial's school record with a throw of 15.01m (49'3"), again finishing third overall and second among NCAA competitors.
Those weren't the only school records to fall this weekend. Brittany Bohn set a personal-best with her record-breaking time of 7:17.38 in the 2,000m steeplechase. Bohn finished sixth overall and fourth among NCAA competitors, she was also the top finisher from OVC schools.
Hannah McAllister stood out among the sprint group. McAllister set PRs in both the 100m and 200m dashes and placed in the top-five in both events. McAllister ran the 200m on day one in 25.08 to finish fifth overall and was the second place finisher in the 100m dash on Saturday, with a time of 12.09.
MSU scored another top-five finish from Alicyn Hester in the 1500m .She took third overall with a time of 4:47.65, in less than perfect conditions. The meet saw its share of wet and windy weather most of the meet. Though the 1500m was not a PR, Hester did set one in the 800m, running in 2:22.67.
Kiara Austin, who finished in fourth place at the OVC indoor national championships in the triple jump, set an outdoor personal best in the event with her jump of 12.00m (39'4.5"). Her marked placed her fifth overall.
The Racers will be back on the track next Friday and Saturday in their first of two home meets this season. The Margaret Simmons Invitational will be held starting at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4.
