Murray State women's basketball team returns home from their longest road stretch in search for its first conference win. MSU will face Tennessee State Thursday at 5 p.m. at the CFSB Center. The Racers lost the three road conference games to begin conference play. When playing on the road for three or more games, MSU is 41-37 when they return to the Bank. In program history, when only playing three games on the road and losing all three, the Racers are 6-5 when returning to the CFSB Center, and 3-5 when that next home game is against an OVC opponent. When the Racers have been on the road for three or more games they are 32-28 in program history when returning home.
Murray State is seeing their name atop the OVC rankings and in some NCAA rankings. Murray State is ranked second in the NCAA and first in the conference in defensive rebounds per game with 32. MSU is ranked 33rd (NCAA) and 1st (OVC) in scoring offense (75.4). The Racers are 17th (NCAA) and 1st (OVC) in three-point field goals per game with 8.2. Individually, Keiona Kirby ranks 29th in three-point field goals per game with 2.81.
MSU rallied late in the game, but fell in overtime 78-73 to Jacksonville State. MSU took its first loss at Jacksonville, Alabama in series history. The Racers are 5-5, this season, when three or more student-athletes score in double-digits. Three Racers scored in double-digits in the loss with Ke'Shunan James leading with a career-high 28 points. Keiona Kirby and Netanya Jackson added 19 and 12 respectively. James led the Racers with nine rebounds, while Jackson and Kirby grabbed eight and six boards, respectively.
Murray State has a 32-22 advantage when facing the Lady Tigers. They have only lost nine games at home, but they have lost the last two games to TSU.
The Lady Tigers took their first conference loss of the season on Saturday when they fell 83-91 to SIU Edwardsville. Tennessee State shot 45.5 from the field, but SIUE was able to shoot 51.0 on the game. TSU made the most of the 15 turnovers the Cougars had by making them into 17 points. The Lady Tigers were led by Chelsea Hudson who put up 21 points, along with Rachel Allen adding 16. Briana Morrow and Jayda Johnson recorded 10 points each in the loss.
