The Murray State women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in OVC play Thursday as the Racers face Belmont in Nashville at 5 p.m. MSU is looking to bounce back from a 74-71 loss Saturday to Jacksonville State at the CFSB Center. It was MSU's first loss in league play this season.
Ke'Shunan James scored a game-high 26 points in the loss to the Gamecocks last weekend. James has now scored 20 or more in five of her last six games. Over that span, she is averaging 25.1 points per game and is shooting 48 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range. James is the OVC's leading scorer averaging 25.7 points per game during league play and 21.1 per on the season.
Ajee Smith continues to run the offense well for the Racers, averaging 7.7 assists over the last three contests, including a career-best 10 assists in the win over Morehead State. During that span, Smith also has a better than 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
The Bruins enter Thursday's contest using a balanced attack offensively as three players average 11 points or more for Belmont this season. Kylee Smith leads the way averaging 12.6 points per game while Darby Maggard and Sally McCabe average 11.5 and 11.2, respectively. Maggard leads the team with 81 assists on the year and is also 21-for-22 (96 percent) from the free-throw line. The Bruins also have three more players that are scoring eight points or more per contest.
Belmont is second in the league in scoring, averaging 73.2 points per game as a team. The Bruins are tops in the OVC in scoring margin (+8.7), field goal percentage (45 percent), 3-point percentage (37.6 percent), assists (17.1) and rebounding margin (+8.8). The Racers have never won on the road against Belmont.
