Racers Look to Maintain Momentum at UTM

The Murray State women's basketball squad looks to maintain its momentum and pick up its first OVC road win Saturday when the Racers travel to the Elam Center to face UT Martin at noon.
MSU is coming off a 66-56 victory over Eastern Illinois on Wednesday at the CFSB Center. Kyra Gulledge recorded a career-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the victory. Gulledge also added nine boards and a block. Ke'Shunan James also added 17 points, while Bianca Babic and Abria Gulledge led the Racer bench with eight and six points, respectively.
Head Coach Rob Cross tallied his 100th career victory in the win over the Panthers earlier this week. Cross becomes the first coach in program history to reach that mark. Cross was already MSU's all-time leader in career wins.
The Racers have lost their last two road contests against the Skyhawks and is 14-22 all-time on the road at UTM. However, MSU's last victory in the series came at the Elam Center in 2013, an 82-72 victory. The Skyhawks have won the last five meetings between the two teams.
UT Martin has a trio of players scoring in double figures this season and is led by freshman DaiJia Ruffin who is averaging 14.1 points per game. Haley Howard is second on the squad at 14 per game and Jessy Ward is averaging 12.7 a contest. Ruffin also leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game and is second on the Skyhawks with 52 assists. Katie Schubert leads UTM with 69 assists this year.
The Skyhawks rank second in the league in multiple categories, including scoring defense (62.0), field goal percentage (43.3) and 3-point percentage (37.2). UTM is also the OVC's leader in team free-throw percentage at 76.8 percent. Seventh-year head coach Kevin McMillan is the winningest coach in program history with 133 wins at UT Martin.
