First Pitch
The Racers hit the road for a three-game series at Austin Peay on Thursday-Saturday. MSU is 3-6 so far this season in road contests, including a 1-2 mark in OVC play. The Racers are coming off a 10-6 victory over Memphis on Tuesday at Reagan Field while the Govs defeated Western Kentucky 16-2. APSU is 8-3 at Hand Park this year.
Inside the Series
Thursday's meeting will be the 200th in the series between the Racers and Governors. MSU is 50-52 all-time on the road against APSU. Last season, the Racers won 2-of-3 at Reagan Field. Last time the two teams met in Clarksville in 2014, MSU swept all three of those contests. The Racers have won 5-of-6 in the series as of late.
Scouting Austin Peay
The Govs have an explosive offense, with eight players hitting above .300 so far this season. Dre Gleason leads the team and the OVC with a .426 batting average while Alex Robles, who is one of the top players in the league, is batting .355 this year. Gleason also leads the team with 12 extra-base hits, six doubles, five home runs and 25 RBIs. Clayton Smithson leads the squad with 20 runs scored. Ridge Smith is second in the league with eight homers for the Govs.
As a team, APSU has a .310 batting average and is 21-for-27 on stolen base attempts. Robles is also one of APSU's top pitchers as well, recording a 3-2 record with a 4.06 ERA in a team-best 31 innings pitched. Michael Costanzo also has three victories this year and a team-high 31 strikeouts. Caleb Powell leads the Governors with a 3.60 ERA and has two wins on the year. Brett Newberg has a team-high two saves.
The Governors are led by first-year Head Coach Travis Janssen.
Bauer Among the League's Leaders
In addition to reaching base safely in all 23 games this season for the Racers, Adam Bauer also leads the league with 34 runs scored and in triples with five. Bauer also is second in the OVC with a .419 batting average and is third in slugging percentage (.709) and on-base percentage (.541). Bauer is also tied for the lead in the conference with 61 total bases.
