Racers Let One Slip Away in Series Finale

The Creighton baseball team scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday at Johnny Reagan Field as Murray State let a series finale victory slip away, losing to the Bluejays 10-5.
The Racers (5-7) went hitless the final six innings of the contest, after building a 4-2 lead after the third inning. For the game, Creighton (6-3) recorded 13 hits to MSU's five. The Racers also committed four errors in the loss, leading to four unearned runs.
Adam Bauer put the Racers out front in the first inning with a solo home run to right field. The blast was Bauer's third homer of the season. CU was able to take its first lead of the game in the top of the third with a pair of unearned runs in the inning.
MSU would respond with its best inning of the game and perhaps the series as they scored three runs on four hits in the bottom half of the third to take a 4-2 lead. A Cody Gilbert triple to right center scoring Jaron Robinson got the inning started for the Racers, Gilbert would later come around to score on a passed ball. Bauer scored his second run of the day two batters later on a Tyler Lawrence RBI single to left field.
The Racers got an unearned run of their own in the seventh as Nick Moore scored from second on CU's only error of the day. Moore was able to reach in the inning on a walk. Moore's run pushed the Racers out front 5-2.
The Bluejays were able to make it 5-3 on another unearned run in the eighth inning, before exploding for five hits and the seven runs in the ninth. All seven of the runs came with two outs in the inning.
Cody Maerz took the loss with the blown save for the Racers as he pitched two innings. Ryan Dills got the start in the game for MSU and had his best day as a Racer, going five strong innings and allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking-out a career-best nine batters with no walks. Tyler Anderson also pitched two innings of relief for MSU in the loss, as he struck-out three and gave up just one hit in his outing.
The Racers return to action Monday as IFPW comes to town for a 3 p.m. game at Reagan Field. The meeting with the Mastodons will end MSU's 10-game homestand.
