MSU Downed at Kentucky

The Murray State baseball team lost a non-conference road contest Wednesday night as the Racers fell to SEC foe Kentucky, 11-1 in Lexington at Cliff Hagan Stadium. MSU went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position in the loss while the Wildcats were 7-of-14.
MSU (6-8) also was just 3-of-13 with runners on base, with UK (9-3) going 9-of-16 in such situations. UK also out-hit the Racers 12-7 overall.
The Racers' lone run came in the fifth on an RBI double by Kipp Moore that scored Caleb Hicks. Hicks reached the at-bat prior on double of his own. Jaron Robinson also had a hit in the loss, while Adam Bauer and Tyler Lawrence each tallied two hits.
Kentucky was able to jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and wouldn't look back from there. The Wildcats had a pair of 4-run innings, in the third and sixth and also scored in the fifth after MSU cut the deficit to 6-1.
Austin Dubsky was tagged with the loss as he got the start on the hill for the Racers. Dubsky allowed six runs, five of them earned, on five hits in 2.2 innings of work. Sheldon Baxter, Andrew Bramley and Derrik Watson all pitched relief in the game. Baxter went three solid innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three batters.
MSU looks to get back on track this weekend as the Racers begin conference play at UT Martin with a three-game series. Weather permitting first pitch for Friday is set for 3 p.m.
