Racers Hang on to Even Series

Andrew Bramley pitched four no-hit innings of relief and Jack Hranec and Ramsey Scott provided the offensive punch as Murray State defeated first-place Southeast Missouri, 4-3 Friday night at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Scott, who for the second night in a row went 2-for-4 in his hometown, hit a three-run bomb to center field in the top of the first inning to catapult the Racers (22-22, 10-10 OVC) to an early 3-0 lead which they wouldn't relinquish. The home run was Scott's 10th of the season. The Redhawks (30-12, 19-4 OVC) got two of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-2.
In the third, Hranec delivered what ended up being the game-winning RBI with his single through the right side of the infield which brought home Tyler Lawrence and put MSU up 4-2. SEMO would cut the Racers' lead to one run with a run of its own in the bottom of the third, but starter Ryan Dills and Bramley combined to go the final six innings without allowing a run.
Dills, who improved his record to 3-3 with the win, pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits while recording six strikeouts. Bramley's gem led to his first save of the season as he struck-out a season-high six batters over his four innings of work and allowed just two baserunners via walk.
Hranec and Reed Thompson joined Scott by going 2-for-4 at the plate in the win and the trio accounted for six of MSU's seven hits on the night as Aaron Bence had the other base knock. Lawrence scored two runs on the night and drew a career-best three walks. Adam Bauer made history on the night as he broke the program record for consecutive games reaching base safely. Bauer has now reached in all 44 games this season.
The rubber match of the series is set for a 1 p.m., first pitch Saturday.
