Murray State continues its homestand Monday as the Racers host Eastern Kentucky at 6 p.m., Monday. It will be the first meeting between the Colonels and the Racers since EKU defeated MSU in the semifinals of the OVC Tournament last season. The Racers are looking to snap a current three-game home losing streak to EKU.
The Racers are coming off an 87-69 loss to first-place Belmont on Saturday. Bria Bethea led the Racers with a career-high 26 points in the loss. Bethea was scorching from the floor as she shot 8-for-11 overall and was 6-of-8 from 3-point range, which were both career-bests. Ke'Shunan James and LeAsia Wright both scored 20 points apiece in the contest. It marked the eighth time this season that two or more Racers have scored 20 points or more in the same game. It was the first time this season that MSU has lost such a contest.
In her last four contests, Bethea is averaging 19 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 55 percent from the field and 64 percent from 3-point range. Bethea is also averaging 20 points per since becoming a starter three games ago.
Wright, meanwhile is just 81 points shy of becoming the 20th member of the 1,000-point club in program history and second to reach the milestone this season. In order to reach the mark, Wright needs to average 13.5 points per game the final six regular season games the Racers play. Wright is currently averaging 15.3 points per game this season.
Eastern Kentucky is led by First Team All-OVC member Jalen O'Bannon's 13.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season. Alexus Cooper and Shavontae Naylor are second and third on the team averaging 12.6 and 11.7 points per game, respectively. Cooper is the only player for the Colonels to have started in all 23 games this season. Cooper leads the team with 51 made 3-pointers on the year and is shooting nearly 37 percent from deep. Katie Pippen leads EKU with a 41 percent clip from beyond the arc. As a team, the Colonels are shooting 39.4 percent from the floor and 31.8 percent from 3-point range.
