First Pitch
The Racers continue their four-game road swing to begin the new season as they travel to face Alabama A&M Tuesday in Huntsville. MSU is coming off a 1-2 weekend in its first series of the season at Kansas. Ramsey Scott hit a pair of home runs in game two this past weekend in the win over the Jayhawks.
Inside the Matchup
Tuesday will be just the fifth meeting all-time between the Racers and Bulldogs and first trip for MSU down to Huntsville, Ala. The Racers defeated AAMU the last time these two met back in 2016. The only other previous meeting was a threegame series in 2013 at Reagan Field that MSU swept.
Relief
The Racer bullpen was the best part of the MSU pitching staff over the weekend at Kansas. The Racers used five relievers in the three games, pitching a combined 14.1 innings of work and allowing just three runs (1.91 ERA) and 12 hits while striking out 11 batters. Blake Clynes pitched a career-high five innings and struck-out a career-best six batters Sunday against the Jayhawks while allowing just one hit. Alec Whaley picked up the victory for MSU Saturday as he went 4.2 strong inning, striking out three and allowing just one run.
Home Cookin' Right Around the Corner
After Tuesday's road contest, Murray State will play 11 of its next 12 games at home at Johnny Reagan Field beginning Friday with a three-game series against Western Illinois. The Racers will also have a four-game set with Fort Wayne, a midweek game against Southern Illinois and begin OVC play with SIU Edwardsville over that span.
Ramsey's Return
Ramsey Scott seemed to be back to his 2016 First Team All-OVC form over the weekend at Kansas, especially in the game two win over the Jayhawks. Scott blasted a pair of home runs deep over the center field wall in the 10-5 win, collecting three RBI and scoring a career-best three runs.
Scouting Alabama A&M
The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-1 weekend in their season-opening series against Fort Wayne. JT O'Reel hit .538 over the three games and drove in two while Carson McGregory and Jonathan Smith II led Alabama A&M with three RBI each.
For the weekend, AAMU hit .330 and tallied 15 RBIs and went 5-of-6 on stolen-base attempts with Brandon Moore leading the way with two steals. Although they won 2-of3 against Fort Wayne, the Bulldogs outscored the Mastodons just 17-16. Jaret Britt recorded a complete game in AAMU's 5-2 victory in the series finale, allowing just four hits and two unearned runs. Jose Figueroa recorded the other win over the weekend for the Bulldogs.
AAMU had a 4.15 team ERA in the three games, struck-out nine batters while walking eight, and had an opponent batting average of .267.
