Add Another Tally To The Board - Racers Beat Illinois State For Fourth Straight Victory
3/21/2018 8:04:00 PM | Women's Tennis
The Murray State women's tennis team finished their road trip through the Missouri Valley 2-0 after beating Illinois State 6-1 in Peoria, Ill.
The Racers secure their fourth straight win to advance to 8-6 overall. Illinois State drops to 9-8 overall with the loss.
"This weekend was very challenging because we had to go back indoors, and we haven't practiced or played indoors for almost a month now," said head coach Jorge Caetano after the two wins. "What I love about this team is that no matter how challenging and tough the situation is, they're going to try and make the best out of it and fight for the win, and this weekend was no different. Both Bradley and Illinois State are going to fight for the title in the Missouri Valley, so it's great to come back from this trip with two great wins."
Although losing in doubles, the Racers went on to sweep singles play.
Murray State started singles play with two quick points due to forfeits by Illinois State in the five and six spots.
Claire Chang won in two sets to make it a 3-1 game for the Racers, with 6-4 and 6-0 results.
Amina Hadzic clinched the victory for Murray State with a two-set win of 6-0 and 6-1.
Stasya Sharapova came away with a three-set victory, as she won the first set 6-2 before narrowly losing the second 6-7. In the third set, she was able to come away with a 10-7 victory.
Sara Loncarevic won in two hard-fought sets, winning 7-6 and 6-4.
The Racers finish the week in Jacksonville, Ala., as they take on the Gamecocks on Sunday, March 25 at 10 am.
