Knight Earns Medalist Win At Big Blue Invitational

Murray State sophomore Austin Knight earned the Racers' first individual title since 2016 when he brought home the medalist honor at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate at Hermitage Golf Club in Old Hickory, Tennessee.
Knight, who began the final round three shots off the lead, fired a final round 3-under-par 69 to win by one shot over Tennessee State's John Tyminski, UT Martin's Nick Wolf and Trey Tobias of Waters State. Knight's score-line totaled a pair of sub-par scores in three rounds (71-72-69=212).
Knight follows Patrick Newcomb (2012), Cameron Carrico (2011) and Mitchell Moore (2007) as Murray State players that have claimed the TSU Big Blue title. The last Racer to win any kind of individual title was in October when Knight won the APSU Intercollegiate. The win for Knight is the 27th individual title in the Coach Eddie Hunt era. That is in 16 seasons from 14 different players.
The Racers carded scores of 295-290-287=872 and saved their best round for the last when they came home with a fourth-place finish in the field of 13 squads. The Racers trailed winner UT Martin (856), second place Tennessee State (867) and third place Wright State (869).
Other Racers scores and finishes included Connor Coombs in 17th place with scores of 73-75-72=220. Gabe Wheeler and Lance Davis shared 28th place. Wheeler had scores of 75-70-78=223, while Davis posted 76-73-74=223. Justin Wendling carded rounds of 76-79-72=227 for a spot in 37th place.
MSU's Avery Edwards was in the field as an individual and withdrew from the final two rounds after posting a 77 in round one.
The Presidents Reserve course played to a par of 71 and a length of 7,044 yards.
The Racers can now prepare for the biggest event of the 2017-18 season (April 23-25) at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship at The Shoals Golf Club in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
