Loncarevic and Hadzic Claim Doubles Runner-Up As Racers Open Fall At APSU Invitational

The Murray State women's tennis team opened their fall season at the Austin Peay State University Fall Invitational on Friday in Clarksville, Tennessee.Â
"It was a very tough first tournament physically, but I am very happy with the way our team responded," said Murray State head coach Jorge Caetano. "It is great to see them being this competitive early in the season especially against some of our OVC rivals. We had a lot of good wins, and this tournament will definitely give us the confidence to continue working hard."
Caetano saw positives early from sophomore Stasya Sharapova, as she finished 3-1 in singles play and earned her spot as a semi-finalist Flight A.Â
"Stasya played some of her best tennis this weekend beating great OVC opponents, and I was thrilled to see her playing at such a high level this early in the season."
Sara Loncarevic also had an impressive tournament, finishing as a semi-finalist in singles play in Flight B while also earning runner-up honors in doubles Flight B with teammate Amina Hadzic. The Racers' Hadzic also contributed in singles play with a 2-2 record. Â
"Sara Loncarevic had an amazing tournament, and I am so happy for her. She has been working super hard and seeing all the improvements she is making in both singles and doubles makes me very proud," remarked an optimistic Caetano.Â
Murray State travels to Muncie, Indiana, this weekend to compete in the Ball State Invitational on September 21 and 22.Â
