Racer Women Compete at NCAA SE Regional

Murray State women’s cross country ran at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Lexington, Ky.
At the 2021 NCAA Southeast Regional, the Murray State men's cross country team finished 28th of 31 teams at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Lexington, Kentucky.
Dani Wright finished her senior cross country season as Murray State's top runner this past weekend. She crossed the first kilometer of the race in 165th place, passing 29 people before reaching the 2nd mile. She would go on to pass an additional 29 runners throughout the race to ultimately place 107th.
"Amirr Evans was the standout of the day. She is primarily a mid-distance athlete so bumping up to the 5k these last few weeks and then the 6k at Regionals was intimidating. Amirr always brings such a positive attitude to the group and encourages the girls to have confidence in their abilities. It was great to see Amirr turn around and take her own advice and really go for it," said distance coach Jordan Johnston.
"I feel like we have just scratched the surface with our freshmen. They all come from very different training backgrounds but have been adjusting to our program very well. Hope Ware has consistently been in our top 5 and has recently shown that she has far more speed than she realized. I look to her to be a leader in that group next year. Ruth Kimutai is fairly new to cross country and I think that she surprised a lot of people when she finished 2nd for our team, negative splitting by 22 seconds in the last kilometer of the race. Quite possibly the biggest training adjustment has been for Ainsley Smith and yet I don't think we could have asked for a better freshmen season," said Johnston.
