Murray State men’s cross country placed tenth overall on the 2022 MVC Championships

Murray State men's cross country placed tenth as a team with 288 points in their Missouri Valley Conference Championships, Friday.

Jorge Ruiz led the Racers by placing 36^th overall with a time of 25:31.7. Ruiz to the risk and started the race with the lead pack.

"Jorge looked smooth and comfortable but ultimately it did not pan out how we would have," said cross country coach, Jordan Johnston. "I'm glad Jorge had the confidence to run as hard as he did and I wish there was a better outcome for him. As a lead runner for a team there is a lot of pressure to perform."

Vicente Correia is second for the Racers, placing 62^nd overall with a time of 26:36.9. In third is Jarod Willis who placed 70^th with a time of 27:10.8.

Benjamin Hall and Joey Santoro rounds up the Racer top-five finishing with a time of 27:16.0 and 27:17.7, respectively.

"Jarod, Joey and Ben ran very well as a pack for the first 4,000-meters," Johnston said. "It's great that they had each other to lean on through the first half of the race."

The Racers were picked to place 10^th in the pre-championship polls. Bradley takes the MVC Championship home with 42 points.
