MSU three-hit in contest despite early lead

The Murray State softball team fell in its NCAA Regional debut Friday, 3-1, to Stanford at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Racers struck first in the contest when Taylor Jackson had a ground out RBI in the top of the first that scored Lily Fischer, who reached base earlier in the inning on her nation-leading 24^th hit by pitch of the season.

However, the Cardinal answered in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Johnna Schroeder that tied the game at one. In the fifth, Stanford put the game away with a two-RBI double from Kaitlyn Lim to cap the scoring at 3-1.

The Racers were only able to scrounge up three hits off the Cardinal's Alana Vawter, who struck out eight in the game while walking none. Hannah James and Jenna Veber had just one earned run each in the game, however the duo combined for just three strikeouts with two walks.

The loss sends the Racers to the elimination bracket of the Tuscaloosa Regional where they will take on Chattanooga at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN+. Should the Racers advance, they would take on the loser of the day's first game between Alabama and Stanford at 7 p.m.
