Vogel's Two Homer Day Propels Racers over Redbirds

Shortstop Drew Vogel homered twice in Murray State's 7-4 win over Illinois State
Along with Vogel's big day, Cade Sammons picked up a double and a triple to go with two runs scored to stuff the scoresheet. Riley Hawthorne smacked an RBI triple to go with a single on the day while Dustin Mercer led MSU with three knocks including a double in the contest. The Racers picked up 12 hits in the game while combining for six extra-base hits.Â
Jacob Pennington earned his fifth win of the season in another strong outing at the Racers Friday night man. Pennington went 5.0 innings pitched while allowing just two earned runs and punching out three Red Birds. Nathan Holler and Ben Krizen each proved to be effective out of the bullpen with 2.0 scoreless innings pitched each.Â
Krizen earned his fourth save of the season in the appearance.
The Racers and Red Birds will square off for game two of the series on Saturday at 3 p.m.
