Seven-figure gift secures naming right for future baseball clubhouse
Murray State Athletics has received a generous $1 million cash gift from the Jim and Sue Cash estate that will have a significant impact on the modernization and growth of the athletics complex footprint, it was announced on Friday.
Â
The gift has secured the naming right for the upcoming Racer baseball clubhouse, which will be the home of Murray State's baseball student-athletes.
Â
"Jim and Sue Cash were tremendous supporters of Murray State University for many years and this continued support is a testament to their passion for the Racers," University President Dr. Ron Patterson said. "We are looking forward to seeing the growth that Racer Athletics will now have as a result of this gift."
Â
Since 2022, the Racers have made significant investment into the baseball program that have amounted to nearly $4 million that helped lead to the team's historic postseason run.
Â
"This investment will immediately allow us to continue and enhance the student-athlete experience within our baseball program and see us further elevate our facility profile as part of our shared vision for excellence," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "Jim and Sue Cash were longtime investors in Racer Athletics, and their continued impact will forever be memorialized through the naming of this new baseball facility."
Â
Investments have included Alston Academic Incentive, Cost of Attendance and revenue share money for student-athletes, the new indoor hitting facility in Roy Stewart Stadium, and updates to the weight room and training room, while upcoming projects include a new outfield wall, new videoboard and scoreboard, and more.
Â
"I am incredibly thankful for Jim and Sue Cash and what they mean to our team and our university," head baseball coach Dan Skirka said. "This clubhouse is a game-changer for our program. It is more than just a building, it is a commitment to our players, our alumni, and the future of Racer Baseball. The new space will give our student-athletes every opportunity to grow, develop, and prepare at the highest level, and it's something we have dreamed about for a long time."
Â
In 2025, the baseball team made history by advancing the Men's College World Series in Omaha for the first time in school history, winning two Missouri Valley Conference titles and the Durham Super Regional title along the way.
Â
The Racer Club plays a crucial role in helping support student-athlete scholarships, general operating budget, and facility enhancements. Investors play a critical role in funding the student-athlete experience and the competitive success of Murray State Athletics programs and student-athletes.
