Racers Fall to Redbirds in Semifinals of the Missouri Valley Tournament

Murray State Tennis season comes to an end in Normal, Ill.
Murray State falls to Illinois State in the semi-finals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
Beginning in doubles, MSU doubles pair Sarah Bureau/Annika Pschorr dominated. They won their match (6-0). The Racers were unable to clinch the doubles point, giving the Redbirds a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Illinois State picked up three wins in singles play to clinch the match. The Redbirds picked up wins in the first, third, and sixth flights. Natalie Slezakova and Paola Campigotto were up a set each before their matches were announced unfinished. Natalie was up (6-4, 3-1), and Paola (6-4, 3-4).
"Not the result we wanted but got to give it to Illinois State and how well they played today and have played the entire season. They are a very tough team to beat indoors and are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment. I feel like we adjusted as well as we could going from outdoors to indoors but unfortunately, the doubles didn't go our way which we knew was going to be crucial given the circumstances. In singles, we were up on two courts and on a tough battle on another one but unfortunately, we weren't able to find another point," said head coach Jorge Caetano.
"It was a long season and we have faced a lot of challenges that have made us stronger as a team. We have learned a lot about ourselves as a team and also about The Valley as a league and with everyone returning and the addition of 2 strong players, the sky is the limit for this group."
