Game Day Story Lines
- It's game-8 of the season for the Murray State Racers as they play their 100th season in program history in 2024.
- The Racers host the North Dakota State Bison for the first time at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Ky.
- The 1 p.m. kick off will also feature the honoring of Murray State Hall of Famer Austen Lane (2006-09), who will have his jersey No. 97 retired on a day when MSU Athletics has Salute to Service Day.
- MSU hasn't committed a turnover in the last two games vs Indiana State and Illinois State and add in the MVSU game and they have three games this season without a turnover.
- The Racers are ninth in the MVFC having committed 10 turnovers in seven games.
- MSU back Jawaun Northington posted his career-high rushing game against Illinois State with 104 yards on 17 carries for an average of 6.1 yards per rush.
- Justice Cross' interception against the Redbirds last week was his first collegiate pick as he played in his 14th career game. (seven game each at FAU and MSU).
- The 2024 schedule may be the most difficult MSU has ever faced as the season could produce eight opponents in 12 games that will be or were ranked nationally when they met the Racers.Â
- Ranked teams in 2024 include four games played and two more, NDSU & SDU will be ranked: (11) Missouri, Â (8) North Dakota, (4) South Dakota, (16) Illinois State, (1) North Dakota State, (3) South Dakota State.
- Since national FCS rankings began in 1978, the Racers have faced a top-5 team 23 times and have won five.Â
- The last win against a top-5 opponent was in 2002 when they defeated Tony Romo and the No. 2 rated Eastern Illinois Panthers 37-35 at Roy Stewart Stadium. The game featured the game winner on the final play, a 52-yard field goal by Shane Andrus.
- In 1980 and 1981, the Racers were the FCS preseason No. 1 team under Coach Mike Gottfried.
- The Racers have lost their last 16 games vs ranked teams since a win at home (03-28-2021) 41-27 over 17th ranked Eastern Illinois. This game was played in March of 2021, after the season was postponed from fall of 2020.
- After the NDSU game, the Racers hit the road next week (Nov. 2) for their first game against South Dakota State in Brookings, a 1 p.m. kick off at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
- Next week, the Racers play South Dakota State for the first time in the MVFC in Brookings, S.D.
- The Racers' final home game of 2024 finds the Missouri State Bears visiting on Nov. 9.
