- It's game-12 of the season for the Murray State Racers as they play their 100th season in program history in 2024.
- The Racers are coming off a 48-6 defeat in the matchup against in-state SEC opponent in the Kentucky Wildcats.
- MSU's senior QB, Jayden Johannsen is 125-of-222 in passing this season with seven touchdown throws against 10 interceptions.
- Last week against Kentucky, J'Kalon Carter had a season best game in receptions with seven and season high in receiving yards with 130 against Kentucky
- Carter ranks inside the top 15 in the MVFC in both receptions and receiving yards in his first season with Murray State
- Northington's 55-yard run in the third quarter against Missouri State two weeks ago was the second-longest run of the season for the Racers.

- The history between Murray State and Southern Illinois dates back to the early years after the founding of each university.
- They first met in Murray in 1927, a game the Racers won 6-3.
- After meeting in 1933 in Murray, a Racers racers 13-0 win, the two teams did not meet for another 53 years.
- During Coach Frank Beamer's Ohio Valley Conference championship run of 1986, the Racers hosted the Saluki's at Roy Stewart Stadium and scored their last of three shutouts in the rivalry 31-0.
- In the 1990s, the Racers and Saluki had some incredible games, including a 1999 contest in Carbondale that saw the Saluki win 58-51. MSU saw quarterback Justin Fuente set the Racers' single-game passing mark with 553yds (35-of-55). The two teams combined for more than 1,200yds of offense in the SIU win.
- The first game for the Racers against SIU in the Missouri Valley football conference occurred in 2023, when the Salukis beat the Racers at Stewart Stadium on homecoming 27-6.Â
- The Racers have only won twice in Carbondale in their history.
- The first was under Coach Houston Nutt in MSU's 1995 championship season when the Racers won in Carbondale 35-3.
- The other happened under Coach Joe Pannunzio in 2001 when quarterback Stewart Childress hit Michael Slater on a 2yd TD pass with :11 remaining to win 24-20.
