Paola Campigotto reached her milestone in a doubles victory over the weekend.
The Racers concluded their Fall 2024 schedule at the Stetson Invitational on Sunday in DeLand, Florida, competing at Stetson's Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Competing alongside Murray State and Stetson were Bethune-Cookman, Embry Riddle, Lynn and St. Leo.
"It was a great tournament from our team overall," head coach Jorge Caetano said. "What impressed me the most is to see how much we have improved from the first tournament back in September. We competed on every court in every match and lost three or four really close ones where we had match points, but I believe those losses are good for our growth as a team."
Senior Paola Campigotto's weekend was highlighted by earning her 100th career victory on Saturday in a doubles match over Embry-Riddle alongside teammate Varya Alexeyeva. The Joinville, Brazil native now holds a 52-23 doubles record and a 50-26 career singles record.
Campigotto and Alexeyeva earned a perfect 3-0 weekend and improve to 9-1 when playing together as doubles partners. Both student-athletes are also tied for the most doubles wins this fall, each holding a 10-3 record.
"Our doubles have improved tremendously from the first tournament back in September," Caetano said. "We are playing fearless, offensive tennis which gives us a lot of confidence going into the spring."
Newcomers Yu Kikawa and Yuna Kadowaki went 2-0 in their doubles matches this weekend, ending the fall with a 9-5 record as the No. 1 doubles pairing for the Racers. Sophomore Valeria Chaikovskaia also saw an undefeated weekend, going 3-0 in singles play and winning all three matches in straight sets. She leads the team with a 14-2 record in singles this fall at the No. 1 spot.
Freshman Barbora Hermanova also notched a perfect 2-0 weekend in singles play.
"Our singles play has had a lot of ups and downs this fall," Caetano added. "But we know exactly the things we must continue to work on in order to become the team we want to become Missouri Valley competition."
