The Racers played the MVC Women’s Golf Championship at Annbriar Golf Club Sunday

The Murray State Racers wrapped up their second Missouri Valley Conference Championship, Annbriar Golf Club in Waterloo, Illinois. Patti Paterson

After a slow start and a score of 315 in round one, the Racers bounced back with better scores in each round with a finish of 305 and 301. MSU's total of 921 was good for a spot in ninth place. The Racers placed fourth a year ago in their first try to the Valley Championship.

Patti Patterson led the Racers with a 17th place finish on scores of 77-74-76=227 as she was awarded with the MVC pin flag as the top finisher on her team.

The Racers also saw the amazing career of Payton Carter come to an end when she made birdie in the final two holes of her six years with Murray State. A year after making a three-way playoff at the MVC Championship and being named the Valley's Player of the Year, Carter didn't play like she wanted to this weekend. She finished in 30^th place on scores of 79-78-75=232.

Carter finishes her career with the Racers in a rare class of student-athletes that won Player of the Year awards in two different conferences. She won the award in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2022 and then won the same honor in the MVC in 2023.
