The Racers return to Cutchin Field to host former-OVC opponent Austin Peay on Thursday, August 29 at 3 p.m. CT at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky.
"We are excited to be back at home for two game this week against familiar foes," head coach Matt Lodge said. "I always enjoy the rivalry with Austin Peay and UT Martin, we are prepared for a tough week of games."
Murray State has gotten the best of the Governors in recent history, having been unbeaten against their former conference foe in their last 10 matches. The last time Austin Peay defeated the Racers dates back to 2011, when the Govs topped MSU by a score of 2-1 at Cutchin Field.
Since the first matchup between the two programs in 2002, the Racers boast a 16-4-1 record with a 9-2-1 record on their home field. Murray State looks to grab their first home win of the season after falling to #19 Xavier on August 22.
Austin Peay enters Thursday's match with an unbeaten 2-0-1 record under head coach Kim McGowan, who is in her third year leading the Governors' women's soccer program. McGowan holds a career 44-41-17 record in her sixth season in a head coaching position, and is 10-20-12 since her arrival to Austin Peay.
The Governors are led offensively by Ellie Dreas, who has scored two of Austin Peay's four goals this season on just four shots. Alec Baumgardt and Paige Chrustowski are responsible for the other two goals, with Baumgardt also having an assist.
Racers keeper Griselda Revolorio was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week earlier this week after deflecting a career-high 12 saves against Xavier and recording her first clean sheet of 2024 at Arkansas State. Her 24 saves this year lead the conference and are tied for the 14th-most nationally in Division I.
Freshman Breece Bass remains the Racers' leading scorer with two goals and holds the only assist for Murray State this season. She also leads the team with five points, seven shots and four shots on goal.
Morgan Bodker, Hannah Carter, Revolorio and Kate Stordy all have played full time in all four matches for the Racers thus far. Along with those four, Tori Schrimpf and Reagan Tate have also posted at least 300 minutes this season. Mary Hardy is just shy of the 300-minute mark for the year, sitting at 297 minutes played.
"I am hoping to build off of our good defensive performances and clean sheet this past Sunday," Lodge added. "We need to be better in possession and control the ball better, but the players are putting in the work and eager to get back on the field tomorrow."
