
Racers Split Friday Contests at Cougar Classic

After losing to Bellarmine, Murray State defeated SIUE 5-3.
Murray State Volleyball (4-4) split their two matches on Friday, losing to Bellarmine (2-6) and defeating SIUE (2-6) at the SIUE Cougar Classic. Â
ÂThe Racers played close sets but were ultimately swept by the Bellarmine Knights in their first match. The Racers dropped the first set 26-24 and the second and third by a score of 25-22. The Racers were out-blocked 5-2 the Knights had the better attacking percentage .330 to the Racers' .205. Â
ÂElla Vogel led the way for the Racers with 16 kills and 11 digs while Dahlia Miller recorded 13 digs and Bailey DeMier had 33 assists.Â
ÂFollowing the loss the Navy & Gold were able to respond against SIUE, defeating the Cougars in five sets. Â
ÂThe Racers dropped a back-and-forth first set 25-20 before winning the second 25-18. They would split the next two sets, losing 25-23 and winning 25-16 to set up a pivotal final set. In the final set, the Racers shut the door on the Cougars, jumping out to an 8-5 lead and going on a 7-3 to close out the match with a 15-8 win. Â
  Three different Racers had double-digit kills, with Federica Nuccio and Ella Vogel recording 14 each and Haidi Miliou putting up 11. Dahlia Miller had a season-high 41 digs while Bailey DeMier had 42 assists and Morgan McClure recorded four blocks. Â
ÂThe Racers are back in action against Chattanooga for their final game of the SIUE Cougar Classic on Saturday, September 14 at 11 a.m. CT.Â
