Murray State Displays Dominance At UCA Fall Invitational

The Racers won 27 of their 32 total matches over the weekend.
The Racers completed their second tournament of the Fall 2024 season at the UCA Invitational in Conway, Arkansas on Saturday, September 21 at the Conway Tennis Center. Murray State saw an overall record of 27-5 as a team across the two-day event, going 18-2 in all singles matches and 9-3 in doubles matches.
"It was a great tournament against some Missouri Valley Conference-level competition," head coach Jorge Caetano said. "We saw a lot of improvements in all areas, which is a great sign of our girls buying in."
After the conclusion of Friday's matches, the Racers ended the day going 3-1 in doubles and 12-1 in singles. After Saturday, the Racers saw a 6-2 record in doubles and a 6-1 record in singles for the day.
"Our singles play is our strength right now where we have been able to dictate the matches," Caetano added. "Doubles looked much better with the adjustments we made but we are still far from where we want to be come spring time, so we will continue to spend a lot of time working on that."
Sophomore Valeria Chaikovskaia now has a perfect 6-0 record thus far this fall season, as well as not having lost a single set through MSU's two fall events. In the UCA Invite, Varvara Alexeyeva and Paola Campigotto went undefeated in singles and doubles play. Bruna Melato, Molly Null, Yu Kikawa and Valeria Chaikovskaia all saw perfect records in singles play.
When facing Missouri Valley Conference foe Missouri State, the Racers went 7-2 in all matches. All eight competing Racers saw a positive record over the weekend.
"We have a couple of weeks until the MVC Fall Individuals," Caetano said. "Now so we will be able to get some good rest and continue our preparation so we can compete for some MVC hardware in Chicago."
