Racers Put up Big Numbers in Pair of Oxford Matches

Murray State fires a 4716 in two matches against Ole Miss and Jacksonville State.
Murray State Rifle shot a pair of matches against Ole Miss and Jacksonville State this weekend in Oxford, Mississippi.Â
In the first match of the weekend on Saturday, the Racers came just one point short of tying the school record in air rifle, firing a 2379. Carlotta Salafia led the Racers with a 598 in air rifle, finishing second overall in the category, while Lea Soulé put up a 595, and Abby Ballard recorded a 594.
The Navy & Gold tallied a score of 2337 in smallbore for an aggregate of 4716, just one point behind the Rebels at 4717. Six of the top 10 individual scorers were Racers, with Salafia being the top finisher for Murray State in third with an aggregate of 1183. Freshman Lea Soulé was one point behind with an aggregate of 1182, good for fourth individually. Mississippi native Abby Ballard placed fifth with a 1177 and was fifth in air rifle with a 594. Mallory Johnson took seventh with a 1169 and 64 centers, with Emma Lawrence right behind her, scoring 1169 with 61 centers. Caroline Martin rounded out the top ten for the Racers, coming in ninth with an aggregate of 1168.
The Racers fired yet another 4716 on Sunday, besting a 4661 from Jacksonville State. Carlotta Salafia was once again the top scorer for Murray State, claiming the top individual spot with a 586 smallbore, 598 in air rifle, and an aggregate of 1184 with 91 centers. Lea Soulé was right behind in second with a 594 smallbore and 590 air rifle for an 1184 aggregate with 82 centers. Caroline Martin took third place with her aggregate of 1182, and a 585 smallbore, and personal best 597 air-rifle.
A trio of Racers took fifth, sixth, and seventh, all with aggregate scores of 1170. Mallory Johnson claimed fifth with scores of 589 in air rifle, 581 in smallbore, and 70 centers. Abby Ballard took sixth with a 591 air rifle, 579 smallbore, and 70 centers, and Emma Lawrence came in seventh with a personal-best 594 air rifle, 576 smallbore, and 65 centers.
The Racers return home on Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. CT to host the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky.
