Racers Post Emphatic Win over MVSU in Home Opener

MSU opened the CFSB Center’s 28th season as the Racers’ home court
The Murray State Racers scored a 108-60 victory in their home opener over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Friday night at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.

Six Racers scored in double-figures and all 11 players scored as the Racers trucked MVSU with a 61-point second half. Brayden Shorter scored 15 points, while MSU got 13 from Fred King and 12 each by Roman Domon, Mathis Courbon and Mason Miller. KJ Tenner added 10 points to the MSU attached that made 48 percent of their shots.

The Racers hit the Delta Devils with an 11-0 run in the first half that pushed their lead to 23-11 at 7:11. MSU pushed the lead to 22 after a 3-pointers from Domon, Layne Taylor and another from Shorter to lead 47-23 at the halftime intermission.

With 13:11 remaining, Taylor and Mathis Courbon connected on back-to-back threes and the Racers pushed it to a 32-point lead at 70-38.

MSU's largest lead of 55 points came with 1:27 left in the game.

- MSU's French Connection, Roman Domon and Mathis Courbon combined for 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
- MSU's point guard tandem of Layne Taylor and KJ Tenner combined for 18 points and 11 assists.
- Fred King saw his first action as a Racer when he entered the game as a sub, he quickly scored his first points at MSU with a nice move down the lane at 16:42.

- The Racers were just two attempted threes from the MSU program record of 45 vs South Dakota State (12-17-2016), a game that went to overtime.

- The last time a MSU defense did this against a D-I team, it came at Eastern Illinois (01-17-2022) in a 72-46 win, as the Panthers hit 14 shots, but turned the ball over 17 times.
- In the CFSB Center era that began in 1998, the Racers are now 27-1 in season openers at the home of Racer Basketball.
- Since their only loss to Houston in 2014, the Racers have won their last 10 home openers.
- MSU met Mississippi Valley for the first time in their 101 seasons of basketball.
