Racers Drop Friday Evening Match in Carbondale

Murray State falls to Southern Illinois 3-0.
The Murray State Racers (4-18, 2-11) fell to the Southern Illinois Salukis (11-16, 5-8 MVC) 3-0 on Friday night in Carbondale, Illinois.Â
The Salukis took control early, posting a 25-17 win in the first set, and continued their success in the second, winning 25-16 and hitting .382. Southern Illinois clinched the match with a strong third set, coming away with a 25-10 win while putting up 12 on .800 hitting percentage and not committing a single attacking error.Â
Ella Vogel continued her pursuit of Jill Doty for fifth all-time in kills at Murray State. The senior tallied 12 kills on the evening to bring her career total to 1263, just 13 behind Doty's career mark. Paige Brock and Katie Titus both put up double-digit assists, as Brock had 13 and Titus had 10. Lily Burnett led the team in digs with nine and added seven kills. Â
Kelly Franklin led the Salukis with 11 kills, while Addison Kerr had 21 assists, and Jillian Shaneyfelt put up 15 digs.   Â
With the loss, the Racers are mathematically eliminated from Missouri Valley Conference tournament contention, as they sit four games out of sixth place with three to play. Meanwhile, the Salukis remain in the hunt, just one game behind sixth-place Illinois State. Â
The Racers return home to host the Valparaiso Beacons on Saturday, November 8, at 5 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Dave Winder on the call.Â
