The Racers turned in multiple personal bests and another MSU record in the 4X400M Relay
The Murray State women's track & field team had student-athletes in two places over the weekend, more than 1,300 miles apart, at Missouri Invitational in Columbia, Missouri and the Boston University Scarlet & White Invite. The competitions took place at the Hearnes at Mizzou and BU's Track & Field and Tennis Center.
In Boston, the Racers' record-setting performance in the 4X400M Relay of 3:37.39 shaved another second from their former record that was set in Columbia, Mo. (Jan. 25). Melvin, Chelby & Cheyenne Melvin, Simone Joseph and Kayla Bell have the top time this indoor season in the Missouri Valley Conference and in NCAA DI, they rank No. 43.
Â
With the larger group of student-athletes competing at Mizzou, the team produced several personal bests and some outstanding showings, including first place victories by Darrione Joseph in the 60M Hurdles and Amahrie Harsh in the 200M Run.
Â
"After a much needed off weekend it was nice to get back to competing today," said MSU Head Coach Adam Kiesler about the Racers' performance at Mizzou. "Attention to detail is a major part of this time of year and you can tell that our student-athletes and doing that and it's paying off with some great results. Darrione Joseph is really putting some things together and she is back to where we thought she should be. We had several accomplishments across both venues and our group is gaining more and more confidence as we are now only three weeks from the Missouri Valley Championships in Chicago."
"What a great experience to be able to compete at such a high-level meet," added Kiesler about MSU's appearance in Boston. "The kids went and took advantage of one of the best meets on the calendar this weekend. We had some seasons best, PRs and another school record in the 4x4. They're setting records and maxing out with everything they have and it's a great achievement."
Next up for the Racers is the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt (Feb. 14-15) in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Missouri Valley Conference Championships (March 2-3) will again be staged in Chicago at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park.
