Racers Overwhelmed by Bruins in Series Finale

Murray State fell 8-0 in five innings.

The Murray State Racers (11-21, 2-10 MVC) fell to the Belmont Bruins 25-10, 9-3 MVC) 8-0 in the final game of their non-consecutive series on Tuesday at Racer Field in Murray, Ky.

The Racers remain in 11th in the Missouri Valley Conference, two games behind Evansville (2-7 MVC). Meanwhile, Belmont is in third place.

Belmont won the hitting battle 7-5 and had more stolen bases 4-1, but was responsible for the game's only error.

The first two innings were quiet, with neither team getting on the board. The Bruins got on the board in the third with four runs coming on three extra-base hits. They added four more in the following inning, with two coming via a Rylee Spindler triple.

Trailing 8-0, the Racers put runners into scoring position in both the fourth and fifth innings but scored none of them.

Erin Lackey, Katy Huels, Kenley Minor, Parker Holcombe, and Courtney Sandy each recorded a base hit and Minor had the lone steal for the Racers.

Karlye Graber (4-6) took the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs through two and two-thirds innings. The freshman walked two with one strikeout.

Maya Johnson (15-2) was the winning pitcher for the Bruins, striking out eight through four innings. Rylee Spindler led the team with three hits and three RBI.

The Racers will travel to Chicago, Ill. for a series at UIC. The first game is scheduled for Friday, April 4 at 5:00 p.m. CT with games to follow at 2:00 p.m. CT on Saturday and 12:00 p.m. CT on Sunday.
