Racers Stay Hot – Sweep Valparaiso on Silva Gem
4/19/2025 9:40:00 PM | Baseball
MSU has won 12 of their last 13 and improve to 10-5 in The Valley
The Murray State Racers finished off a successful weekend with a 5-1 win over the Valparaiso Beacons at Emory G. Bauer Field in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Now 27-9 the Racers are 10-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference after sweeping Valpo and push their recent hot streak to winning 12 of their last 13 games.
On Saturday, MSU's Isaac Silva tossed the Racers' first complete game of the spring by tossing nine innings with only one earned run, by limiting VU to only six hits and two walks
On offense, the Racers made efficient work of their five hits and some errors from the Beacons.
Jonathan Hogart was the only Racer with a multi-hit day with a pair of hits including his first triple of 2025.
The Racers have won the last seven games with Valparaiso.

Game Notes
- MSU is on the doorstep of history as they close on the program's fifth-straight 30-win season under Head Coach Dan Skirka.
- The Racers tied the previous best run in team history as they matched the four-consecutive 30-win seasons under Hall of Fame Coach Johnny Reagan from 1973 to 1976.
- The Racers lead the Beacons 13-5 in their all-time series and are 5-1 at Emory G. Bauer Field.
- MSU has won 12 of their last 13 games as they prepare for a Tuesday non-conference game at North Alabama in Florence.
- The Racers play next weekend in Terre Haute against Indiana State in their next challenge in the MVC.
- MSU is 10-5 and tied with Southern Illinois for third place in the MVC, just behind leader Missouri State at 11-3.
- Silva's gem today was the Racers' first 9-inning complete game since Hayden Winja beat Austin Peay 11-2 at home in 2022.
- Dom Decker's 9-game hit-streak was halted on a hitless day, but his on-base streak of 18 games continued with a pair of walks.
- Carson Garner drew three walks today and leads the MVC with 42 for the season.
- Garner is making a run at the MSU program record for walks of 58 by Hall of Famer Jack Perconte in 1974.
- Garner had a walk today and has 43 in the 2025 season.
- There are three other instances of 50+ walks in a season at MSU, Perconte had 52 in 1976, Ty Stetson had 53 in 2012 and Grant Wood had 50 in 2018.
- The Racers return home (May 2-4) to host Southern Illinois on MSU Baseball Alumni Weekend.
- Festivities include honoring new MSU Hall of Famer, Daniel Calhoun, the 1975 NCAA Team and Johnny Reagan Day.
