Taylor marks four-straight years for a Racer to advance to the NCAA’s highest level of competition
Murray State high jumper, DiamonAsia Taylor, advanced out of the NCAA Track & Field East Regional over the weekend to the upcoming NCAA Finals at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Â
Taylor, a sophomore from Urbana, Illinois, competes in the high jump Saturday (June 14) with the session beginning at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
Â
The Missouri Valley Conference high jump champion entered the NCAA East meet ranked eighth among the 48 competitors and left in the same spot, but more than enough to advance.
Â
Taylor was successful in her first three attempts at heights of 1.69m, 1.74m and 1.79m. When the bar went to 1.82m, Taylor took her three chances but couldn't make a successful leap. The 1.82m height would've topped her personal best of 1.81m.
Â
Meghan Fletcher's 1.84M is the current program record that was set set in 2024.
Taylor's appearance at the NCAA Finals marks the fourth-straight year that the Racers have sent at least one student-athlete. The others include: Rachel Hagans (2022 Long Jump), Kayla Bell and Meghan Fletcher (2023 800m & High Jump) and Chelby Melvin and Fletcher (400, Hurdles & High Jump).
