Caetano has led Racers to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference regular season championships
Following a second consecutive Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship, Murray State women's tennis head coach Jorge Caetano has received a contract extension through 2028, it was announced on Friday.
Over the last two seasons, the program has won two regular season titles, an MVC tournament title and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
"We are thankful for Jorge's leadership since taking over the program and are thrilled to have him continue coaching our tennis student-athletes into the future," Murray State University President Dr. Ron Patterson said. "We wish him and the program all the best as they prepare to begin another exciting season."
This past season, the Racers posted an impressive 16-7 overall record and a perfect 8-0 record against league opponents, extending their regular season conference winning streak to 18 matches.
"Jorge has continued to guide our tennis program to championship success in the Missouri Valley Conference, and we are thrilled to give him this well-deserved extension," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "Jorge is doing a phenomenal job with each of the student-athletes that have come through the program, and we are excited to watch this team continue to build upon its success over the last two seasons."
"I am incredibly grateful to Murray State for the opportunity to continue leading this program," Caetano said. "The last two seasons have been nothing short of special, bringing home back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Championships and building a culture of excellence, resilience, and unity. I'm proud of what our student-athletes have accomplished and I am excited about what is ahead—especially with the recent resurfacing of our tennis courts, which reflects the university's ongoing commitment to our program's growth. Thank you to Director of Athletics (Nico) Yantko, President Patterson, the Board of Regents and all of Racer Nation for your continued support. Let's keep making history together."
Under Caetano, six Racers earned All-Conference honors with Yu Kikawa and Paola Campigotto earning All-Conference First Team honors in singles play and Val Chaikovskaia, Bruna Melato, Campigotto, and Varya Alexeyeva All-Conference First Team honors in doubles play.
Caetano was also named the MVC Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.
The department recently made significant enhancements to Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts that included total resurfacing of each court, new benches and updates to the branding throughout.

Additionally, the tennis team has received an influx of new resources since the start of the 2022 athletics year, with Cost of Attendance and Alston academic incentive money helping build championship rosters.
These critical resources could not have been possible without the private support of so many incredible investors, who have bought into the department's shared vision for excellence.
