Murray State Tops Cumberland 6-1 to Open Season

Hardin, Ky. – Murray State Tennis opened the 2026 season with a 6-1 win over Cumberland on Friday, extending the Racers' winning streak to 13 matches.
Murray State jumped out early in doubles play. The Racers cruised to a 6-1 victory on Court 1, then secured the doubles point with wins on Courts 3 (6-4) and 2 (7-5).
The Racers carried that momentum into singles, picking up early leads on Courts 1, 2 and 4. Freshman Sofia Issakova earned the first singles win of the day with a 6-0, 6-2 victory, followed by Valeria Chaikovskaia's 6-1, 6-2 win. Yuna Kadowaki clinched the match for Murray State with a 6-3, 6-0 win on Court 4.
Cumberland's lone point came on Court 3, where Bruna Melato fell in singles action. Yu Kikawa and Rebecca Widan closed the match with straight-set wins on Courts 5 and 6.
