MURRAY – The Murray State men's basketball team unveiled the reimagined CFSB Center with a 93-71 win on Saturday night, thanks in large part to Brayden Shorter's career-high 29 points on eight three-pointers.
The Racers (2-0) remain at The Bank next week with a pair of contests, first on Tuesday as they host Alcorn State. Murray State then hosts Texas Southern next Saturday night, with both games set for 7 p.m. tipoffs.
Murray State has now won 13-straight home openers on the hardwood and improved to 5-1 in its five building-opening games, with the lone loss in the first game in program history and the opening of Wilson Hall in 1925. Building-opening wins also came in 1927 (Lovett Auditorium), 1937 (Carr Health Building), 1954 (Racer Arena) and 1998 (original CFSB Center).
The CFSB Center reopened its doors on Saturday following a massive eight-figure renovation to completely transform the facility, and the new facility saw a winner thanks to a huge 22-3 run to close the final seven minutes of action and turn a two-point Racer lead into the final 22-point margin.
Shorter tallied 20 of his career-best 29 points in the second half, while his eight made three-pointers Saturday were the most threes by a Racer in a game since Justice Hill's eight triples in 2022. Shorter becomes the eighth player in program history to make at least 8 three-pointers in a game.
Shorter nearly tied the program record with nine threes, but had his originally called three-pointer with 8:21 remaining overturned after review to a two-point basket and he eventually finished with the eight made from long distance.
Jonas Boulefaa led the Racers at the break with 11 first half points before finishing with 13 on the night, while Roman Domon was aided by a 9-of-11 mark at the free throw line to notch 17 points of his own as nine different Racers were in the scoring column. Brigham Rogers' eight rebounds was a game-high as he chipped in four points.
Murray State finished the night shooting 51 percent overall with a 44 percent clip from distance on 14 total made threes, while Northwestern State shot 50 percent overall and 58 percent from three behind seven triples.
Kai Simpson led Northwestern State with 24 points, while Nathan Ojukwu turned in 15 points and Antoine Almutter added 10 points as the Demons in double-digits in the loss.
