EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Five-hit performances from Parker Airhart and Connor Chisolm led Murray State to even the series with a 15-10 slugfest victory over Evansville on Friday night. The Racers launched four home runs in the contest, marking a single-game season high for the program.
Murray State (30-25, 14-9 MVC) earned its 30th win of the season, extending its streak of 30-win seasons to six consecutive years. The Racers are the only Division I program to accomplish that feat.
The Racers' 21 hits on the day are the most in a single game versus a Division I opponent since April 23, 2022, when Murray State collected 21 hits against Eastern Illinois.
Parker Airhart, Kristofer Hokenson, Kainen Jorge, and Luke Mistone each hit home runs, with Mistone's three-run shot in the top of the ninth serving as the definitive dagger.
Airhart and Chisolm's five hits apiece set new single-game career highs for the duo. Alongside a four-hit performance from Colby Ott, the bottom and top of the Racers' lineup provided historic bookend dominance, combining to go a staggering 14-for-17 (.824) at the plate. Airhart sent a solo shot over the left-field wall for his second home run of the year to go along with four RBIs, tying a career high and setting a season high.
Chisolm collected two doubles on the day, marking the second time in his career and the second time in the last five games he has accomplished the feat.
Colby Ott notched a four-hit performance, scoring twice and driving in one. Ott's four hits marked a career high for the graduate student.
Jacob Hustedde started for Murray State and was masterful early on the mound. Hustedde carried a perfect game through 4 2/3 innings, the longest a Racer has taken a perfect game since Ethan Lyke threw 4 1/3 perfect frames versus North Alabama on Feb. 27, 2024.
Ben Rosin earned his fourth win of the year after throwing 1 2/3 innings of one-run relief.
Dylan Zentko earned his eighth save of the season, moving him one save away from breaking the single-season record set last year by teammate Graham Kelham.
How It Happened
After two scoreless frames, Murray State's offense ignited in the top of the third. Kainen Jorge broke the ice with a solo home run to left, followed by RBI singles from Parker Airhart, Colby Ott, and Connor Chisolm to build a quick 5-0 cushion.
The Racers double-dipped on five-run frames in the fifth. Kristofer Hokenson and Airhart launched solo blasts to spark the rally, and Luke Mistone later delivered a sharp two-RBI double to left-center. A bases-loaded walk to Hokenson capped the outburst, pushing the margin to 10-0.
The Aces (20-30, 13-10 MVC) got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Chisolm punched right back in the top of the sixth with an RBI double to make it 11-3.
Then came the bottom of the sixth, where the Aces roared back with a seven-run frame to cut the Racers' lead to one. Evansville batted around against the Murray State bullpen to suddenly pull within a single run at 11-10.
Airhart provided brief breathing room in the top of the seventh, singling home Daylan Pena to move the score to 12-10.
With a tight two-run lead in the top of the ninth, the Racers put the game on ice. After Airhart and Chisolm singled to put two runners aboard, Mistone delivered the definitive dagger, blasting a three-run shot to left to extend the lead to 15-10. Closer Dylan Zentko then slammed the door with a 1-2-3 bottom half to secure the road victory thriller.
