Racers run through Team Barcelona in European opener

BARCELONA – The Murray State men's basketball team began its European tour with a 95-64 victory over Team Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon, with four Racers turning in double-digit scoring performances.

The contest wraps up the Racers time in Barcelona, with the team enjoying the city for the remainder of Wednesday before departing to Mykonos, Greece in the early hours of Thursday morning. Murray State will be in Mykonos through Saturday, when the Racers play their next contest against Maroussi BC.
On Wednesday, the Racers passed out 26 assists on 37 made baskets and shot 46 percent overall as 10 different players scored and nine had assists. After a contested first quarter, the Racers rolled off a 19-9 second quarter to gain separation before dropping 31 points in the 10-minute third quarter to coast to the 31-point win.
In addition to the 26 assists, Murray State also had 17 steals from nine players as the Racers finished with 31 points off of turnovers as they used their size to tally 38 paint points and used their speed to get out and run to 25 fast break points.
Mathis Courbon scored 17 of his game-leading 21 points in the second half, while Roman Domon tallied all 14 of his points in the first half as the Racers jumped out to the giant lead. Kaden Magwood added 13 points in his first game as a Racer, adding a game-high six assists, while Christian Jones was the final double figure scorer with 10 points. Lachlan Crate and Brayden Shorter each finished with nine points, while Crate was one of four players who grabbed seven rebounds, joining Magwood and big men Shon Tupuola and Brigham Rogers.
