George Greenfield – Football, 1969-1973 (Deceased)
- Out of Owensboro, Kentucky, Greenfield began his Murray State football career as a defensive back for Racer Coach Bill Furgerson.
- Greenfield was a starter on the Racer defense as a freshman in the 1969 season.
- In 1970 he earned All-Ohio Valley Conference Second Team honors as a sophomore.
- Had nine interceptions and 160 tackles in his two seasons on defense.
- In 1971, Greenfield was tried at wide receiver before being moved to fullback, a position he hadn't played since high school.
- After sitting out the first two games of the 1971 season, Greenfield started at fullback against Morehead State, running for 68 yards in six carries.Â
- At the end of the 1971 season, he was the Racers’ second leading rusher with 616 yards.
- As a senior in 1972, he became the most dominant back in the OVC. He rushed for an OVC-leading 1,155 yards on 251 attempts.
- Both were Murray Sate records at the time.
- He was named OVC player of the Year for 1972 and was conference Player of the Week three times.Â
- Against Evansville in 1972, his rushing game of 259 yards, was a MSU record for 33 years until it was topped in 2005.
- Greenfield finished his career with 1,771 yards rushing, which then made him the second all-time MSU leading rusher at the time.
- He was also the second-leading pass interceptor at MSU after his career finished in 1972.
