Big Innings Cost Racers In 16-8 Loss Against Middle Tennessee

Racers Face Auburn Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Murray State softball team erased an early 6-1 Middle Tennessee State lead, but was unable to keep the Blue Raiders off the scoreboard in a 16-8 loss Friday night in the Racers first game of the weekend at the War Eagle Classic in Auburn, Ala.
MSU (1-2) tallied the first run of the game in the top of the first as Stephanie Mattocks brought Jenna Bradley home from second on a two-out single to center field.
Middle Tennessee scored five runs in the bottom of the frame, using three hits and four walks en route to scoring three with two out to lead 5-1 after one.
Trailing 6-1 in the top of the third, the Racers would chip away at the MTSU lead, with Bradley, Ellyn Troup and Leslie Bridges singling to bring in one run apiece. Madysen Wilton walked with the bases loaded to score a fourth run and Taylor Wilson was hit at the plate with a pitch to score the fifth Murray State run of the inning.
Following a Blue Raiders run in the third and four runs in the fourth, the Racers looked poised to cut the deficit down again as Lauren Buch singled to lead off the top of the fifth, Bridges reached on an error at third and Wilton loaded the bases on a fielders choice. Glosser scored the first run of the inning with a bunt single with one out, and Bridges scored on a passed ball, but MSU ended the inning with a strike out and fly out to left to exit the top of the fifth down 11-8.
Middle Tennessee (4-5) scored five in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game on a three run home run from Kelsey Dortch to give the Racers a 16-8 loss.
Glosser and Mattocks led the MSU offense with two hits each. Bradley and Buch scored two runs apeice and seven different batters recorded an RBI.
The Racers continue play at the War Eagle Classic with a single game in the second day of competition, drawing host Auburn at 3 p.m.
